- A man in California experienced pain and struggled to urinate - X-ray images showed he had a huge bladder stone - It was the size of an ostrich egg and doctors removed it Doctors in California, US have removed a huge bladder stone from a 64-year-old man who complained of pain and struggling to urinate. The bladder stone was as large as an ostrich egg. It measured 4.7 inches by 3.7 inches by 3 inches (12 by 9.5 by 7.5cms) and weighed 700g. Bladder stones usually affect people older than 50. They are often small enough to be passed in urine but on this occasion, doctors had to surgically remove it. The massive bladder stone. Photo: New England Journal of Medicine 2017.
